Discuss about the functions of aldosterone and atrial natriureteric peptide.

Functions of aldosterone:
1.      Aldosterone in essential for life. Total loss of adrenocortical secretion usually causes within 3 days to 2 weeks.
2.      Aldosterone increase renal tubular reabsobtion of Na+
3.      Aldosterone increase renal tubular secretion of K+
4.      Aldosterone increase extracellular fluid volume and arterial pressure.
5.      Aldosterone increase tubular secretion of H+
6.      Aldosterone stimulate Na+ & K+ transport in sweat glands, salivary glands and intestinal epithelial cells.
Function of ANP:
As a result of volume expansion, atrial muscle stretched and release ANP, which has effect on kidney. It increase GFR thus increase renal excretion of Na+ & water.
