Plasma non functional enzyme

Enzymes are produced by cells and remain within the cells to perform their catalytic functions. Very small amount of the enzymes are released in blood as a result of normal turnover of cells. Hence under normal condition the enzymes are present in very small amount in blood where they have no specific function, so termed as plasma nonfunctional enzyme. concentration of non functional plasma enzyme increase greatly in diseases causing breakdown of cells or increased cellular permeability. So estimation of the plasma concentration of these enzymes in blood is useful for the diagnosis of disease depending on their tissue origin.
Roughly diagnostic enzyme are grouped according to the origin to which they mostly belong:
1. Hepatic enzyme
·        ALT
·        AST
·        ALP
·        y-GT
2. Cardiac enzymes:
·        Creatine kinase
·        CK-MB
·        LDH
·        AST
3. Muscle enzyme: CK, LDH, AST, aldolase
4. Pancreatic enzyme: amylase, lipase
5. Bone Enzyme: ALP, ACP
