Trace elements



Trace elements are the minerals having total body content less than 5 gm and daily requirement less than 100mg.
eg. Iodine, Zinc, Iron, Cupper, Manganese, Cobalt, Chromium, Selenium, Fluride, Molybdenum.
Function:
1.      Provide suitable environment for protoplasmic activity.
2.      Acts as structural element of bones and teeth.
3.      Acts as cofactor of enzyme.
4.      Maintain neuromuscular irritability, nerve conduction and membrane permeability.
5.      Iron and iodine are integrated part of heme and thyroid hormone respectively.
* Common trace element deficiency is iodine and iron deficiency.
