The physiologic importance of electrolytes in body fluid

1.      Na+ is the major determinant of plasma osmolality.
2.      K+ is the major determinant of intercellular osmolality.
3.      The plasma HCO3 reflects acute changes in acid base balance.
        4.    Serum ionized Ca++ is responsible for many important physiological processes.
